Good participation in all age categories from Beachborough this weekend at Southam triathlon and there were many trophies won! Well done to all that took part on what turned out to be a perfect Autumn’s day for racing.
Sprint Distance Triathlon
This weekend I raced Southam triathlon. This was my first sprint race, and I had never raced as far as this previously. It started with a 400m pool swim followed by a 20km bike on open roads. This was a bit daunting, but it was okay in the end as the roads were reasonably quiet. The bike course was long and undulating, the first section was a long straight road which felt a bit lonely on my own, I then turned left up a hill onto a quieter road through a couple of villages and then left again back on to a main road back into Southam. This section was very undulating with a long steady climb up to the roundabout and back into town. I got stuck behind a man on this section after the roundabout and couldn’t over take due to traffic, so I decided I’d better stay behind him and stay safe! I then had to run 5km which was on a grass field. My run didn’t feel great as I had heavy legs from the cycle and this was always going to be the case as I hadn’t ran much recently because of my shin splints. I came 2nd (girl) and 3rd overall in my age group (Junior 15-24) so I was pleased with my result as I had done little training.
