This weekend I raced at Sandwell Triathlon, in the West Midlands. I was the only Beachborough athlete but there were lots of other athletes there from the West & East Midlands and North West too. The lake swim was an easily navigated 300m. We started out of the water and each person went off every 3 seconds. There was a slippery slope going in and out of the water, most people wore a wetsuit but a few wore just their Tri suits. I kept my starting position and thought I did well in the swim.
The run into transition was a downhill stretch. The transition area was a big tarmac car park with about 8 racks, so plenty of room to put your bike. The bike course was made up of 2km loops on a closed road, I had to do 3 laps. Leaving transition, there was a hill that lasted for about 500m. At the top of the hill was a 180 degree turn followed by a long downhill stretch. At the bottom of the hill it flattened out and there was another 180 degree turn before a slow incline back up the hill. After 3 laps, I went into transition and off for my run.
The run was quite flat except for a hard sharp hill in the middle, it was a 2.4km ‘out and back’ run. You come down the hill back to the lake where the finish is.
I enjoyed the race and finished 5th girl in T3. It was a great race and well-organised. I would definitely like to do it again. Written by Lottie
