It was an overcast day for the last open water triathlon at Eton Dorney. There was a small but happy team from Beachborough Triathlon club, which included Lewis, Jarryd, Jess, Noah and myself & we were all raring to get started.
There were over fifty competitors from 11 to 16 years old, and it was a tough competition. We all set off to the edge of the lake where the race started, where we had a briefing before we set off, which was long but helpful. It was a running start with five seconds between everyone. It was a 200-meter swim which was cold but very enjoyable, as the water was clean and not murky, which helped us a lot. We all tried our best and we all did extremely well. We all clambered out of the lake, the mat was quite slippery, so we had to be careful not to slip. We ran into transition where I had trouble getting my wetsuit off, but other than that I think everybody else did alright.
The cycle (5.3 km) was intense as the wind started to pick up but everyone pushed through and made good time. The cycle was fun because it was flat and on tarmac, so we could go extremely fast! Everyone had a great second transition & headed into the 1.8 km run which was also flat & fast. Everyone did really well with Jarryd coming in 2nd overall. In TS2 Lewis was 1st boy (11th overall), Noah 2nd boy (16th overall), Jess 3rd girl (24th overall) & I was 6th girl (29th overall).
We all got a nice wooden medal & really enjoyed our last Open water race of the season.
