One of Beachborough Triathlon club’s ‘master’ members qualified to race in the Age-Group Triathlon Sprint Championships in Kazan, Russia on 31st July 2019. A big congrats to Fay as she won silver! – Fay has kindly sent us her race report:
My race started with a 750m Nonwetsuit swim in the rather choppy, grubby algae fille Kazanka River. My goggles steamed up and I went off course finishing in a disappointing 17 mins, which meant I was trailing the lead by 3 mins. 10 secs. Fortunately, I managed to pull off one of my fastest AG bike splits over the 20k course due to my super road bike set up by Drag2Zero earlier this year. With a time 34.27, this took me up to 3rd place! With very little run training due to an ongoing Achilles issue, I managed to run up into 2nd place on the run for a pleasing 22.58 and take the silver medal!
This is my first International podium and although the field was somewhat reduced, it was nonetheless a challenging race.
I owe a lot of credit and thanks to Beachborough and Team Cherwell Triathlon Clubs, Mark Pearce (Intelligent Triathlon World) and Boswell Clinic’s Physiotherapy Team. My biggest thanks goes to Brackley and Woodgreen Leisure centres who have both willingly supported me on the FANs (Free Access for National Athletes) scheme enabling me to use all their facilities for free. This has undoubtedly had a significant impact on my progress and rehabilitation this year, enabling me to fund my race in Russia for the European Championships and Lausanne World Sprint Age Group Championships due this August.
