This weekend Beachborough Triathlon club competed at one of the most challenging triathlons this season. It was a long journey but although it was a long way we all were excited to get onto the course and compete against the other triathletes. As we got there everybody was rolling out their bikes and preparing everything for the upcoming race. We were all allowed to have a trial run of the bike lap before the Tri-Start 1’s began.
After setting everything up in transition, we headed back to our Beachborough Gazebo which was set up for the club where we rested, warmed up or watched our teammates. When it was finally my race, I warmed up and got ready before heading down the hill to the beautiful lake. When Tri Start 3 were called up we headed to our briefing before running down the ramp into the lake to start the triathlon. The swim was quite challenging as I was doing a much further distance than I would normally do – at least 450 meters and it meant it was much harder than usual. After exiting the water, I reached the part of the race everyone dreaded – the 500-metre vertical hill up to transition. Although it doesn’t sound too bad, we either had to run in our wetsuits or carrying them.
After going through transition we then had to start the bike laps which were 3 laps in total, each one being approx 3 km around the beautiful grounds of Bowood House. The most challenging part of the cycle was the 90° corners some of which were very deadly! After finishing the bike it was onto the run, the final part of the race and probably the hardest part of the race due to the massive hills and the previous long distances. It was a 2.5 km run in one lap and it was really nice having the club cheer you on whilst you used the rest of your energy to get to the end. When I was very near the end of the race someone was approaching from behind almost overtaking me but I did not let him beat me to the finish line and I used the remaining energy left inside to push to the end and ending up lying on the ground after the extremely difficult race. Although it was a hard race, overall it was great for the club.
We are such a supportive club and we loved cheering on Jessica’s mum Jo who also raced as part of our club this weekend. She did so well! After the race, we all gathered around our gazebo and took some group photos as a whole club and then to relax we played a mini-game of cricket which was very enjoyable and will stay in my memory. Overall it was an excellent way to spend Saturday and everyone at the club will be looking forward to our future events. Written by Harrison.
