On Wednesday I competed at the Super Series and IRC event at Mallory Park. We arrived very early in the morning as the first race was at 8:15. I got to see Sam, Thomas, Jarryd, Charlotte, Hannah, Lottie, Mollie and Jess race first. Their races were really fast and the TS3 swims were really aggressive. Next, it was my turn and I chose to wear a wetsuit as the water temperature was 18 degrees. The start was a mass start and it was also deep water. My swim was really good and I got out of the water in a good position. My transition was good and I went out on the race circuit for a fast bike ride which has some hairpin bends to slow faster riders. The second transition was not so good as people had put their bikes in the wrong places, a marshal helped me. The run course was a very flat part of the race circuit. The run was hard after the swim and ride but I did not stop and I was proud to have completed the race.
Next, we got to watch the youth and Junior athletes in their mixed relays. They were really fast. I cheered on Daniel and Larissa who were in the first wave. They did really well.
We also had a surprise as Alex Yee came to the event and Jarryd, Lewis and I had a photograph with him. He stayed for over an hour talking with everyone.

Mallory Park Relays
On Wednesday, I took part in the relay element of the IRC (Inter-Regional Championship). This took place at Mallory Park in the afternoon after an individual race in the morning.
The first racer started in the water as a mass start and this was then followed by a bike that was around the lake on a motorsport track. We did one quick lap of the track and then onto the run. The first relay team member had to run towards the finish line but hand over with a quick hand tap to the next person waiting. Standing, waiting for your teammates, the nerves begin to get bigger and there is an urge to get going. After the first leg, the race became more spread out. For the second, third and fourth person you had to run into the water, and start swimming trying to gain or keep the lead your teammates had created.
All the teams did extremely well and we all were extremely grateful to those athletes who stepped up to fill spaces as we had a few qualifying athletes who couldn’t make the day.
The teams were:
Lottie, Thomas R, Mollie and Noah
Charlotte, Rueben, Jessica and Seb
Betsy, Sam, Lauren and Oscar
Hannah, Thomas S, Katie, Alex
Race report by Mollie.
