On Sunday, Mum took me to Southam for my first individual triathlon.
We arrived early but the time went really quickly. I was able to cycle and walk the course in advance which was really useful, and it meant I was prepared for cycling up the two mounds and I knew the route. The ground was dry and there were cracks in the ground, but I didn’t find it an issue.
I did a warm-up with some of my friends and then I stood watching the transitions and cheering on others with Eva and my Mum. Dad and Benjamin arrived in time to watch me race. I didn’t feel nervous beforehand; I was keen to get started. I had done a swimming course over the summer so I was looking forward to putting my front crawl into practice.
The swim was in a 25-metre pool and was really fun. I overtook someone but Dad said I lost some time behind another swimmer. My transition went well and then it was the cycle, which was my favourite part, it was really fun. I found running the hardest as I was really tired by then and had a stitch. Having people cheer me on gave me an extra push.
I was the 3rd boy and came 4th overall in TS0. I really enjoyed the day, everyone was really friendly.
